What it is
The Supplier Development and Diversity Division (SDDD) advocates for local, small, disadvantaged, minority and veteran-owned businesses that want to work with Prince George's County Government. It works with the county's Contracts Administration and Procurement division to give these firms fair access to procurement opportunities, and it is the official authorized certification agency for the county government.
What it offers founders
SDDD certifies businesses so they may receive preference in county procurement. Certifications covered in its training include Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), County Based Business (CBB), County Based Minority Business Enterprise (CBMBE), County Based Small Business (CBSB), County Based Small Minority Business Enterprise (CBSMBE) and County Located Business (CLB). For a young company based in the county, certification can be a practical way to stand out when bidding on county contracts.
SDDD also runs a monthly Business Certification Overview training on Zoom that explains the certification types, their benefits and requirements, and the application process. Registration is through the PGC Training tab of the county's Certification and Compliance System.
Who it is for
Businesses that want to sell to Prince George's County Government, especially firms located or based in the county and small, minority and veteran-owned companies. It is most relevant to founders with a product or service the county buys and who are ready to bid on public work.
How to apply
Create an account and complete your application in the county's Certification and Compliance System, which is also used for recertification. Attending the overview session first is a good way to choose the right certification. Separately, register as a vendor so you receive notices of county bid opportunities. The county's certifications page links to these systems. For technical certification questions, or to request SDDD at an outreach event, email SDDD@co.pg.md.us. The county lists its mailing address as the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building, 1301 McCormick Drive, Largo, MD 20774.
Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem
Prince George's County is a large local government buyer in suburban Maryland. For founders building in the county, SDDD is the gateway to local business preferences in county contracting, and its Supplier Development page is the place to start before pursuing county work.
