What to expect

This is a one-hour virtual fireside chat hosted by the Student Community of Interest at the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC). A hiring professional from GuidePoint Security and a recent graduate who joined the company will discuss the job search, how to stand out to employers, and the move from college to career.

NVTC lists these topics:

  • What employers look for when hiring students and recent graduates
  • Advice on resumes, applications, and interviews
  • A recent graduate's firsthand account of landing a first role at GuidePoint Security
  • Practical tips for building skills and preparing for interviews

Who should attend

NVTC names three audiences: students seeking internships, students about to graduate, and recent graduates exploring their next career step. Founders are not named as an audience, and this is not startup programming. A founder new to the DMV would mainly get a view of how one employer talks about early-career hiring, which may help if you plan to recruit students or new graduates.

Speakers

  • Casey Curran, Higher Education Talent Coordinator, FCEDA, and Chair of the Student Community of Interest (moderator)
  • Janice Li, Threat Intelligence Consultant, GuidePoint Security
  • Kevin Woods, Director of Learning and Development, GuidePoint Security
