What it is
Arcadia is an energy management company for businesses, founded in 2014 with a vision of unlocking global utility data to accelerate the energy transition. Kiran Bhatraju is CEO and founder. Its stated mission is to simplify energy management so businesses can focus on everything else. Arcadia is headquartered in Washington, DC and also has an office in Chennai, India. Over time it has acquired Genability, Urjanet, ENGIE Impact and RPD Energy, as noted on its about page.
What it offers
Arcadia's products fall into three groups. Utility expense management covers automated bill payment, budgets and forecasting, audit and anomaly detection, and waste and telecom expense management. Energy procurement covers retail and renewable energy purchasing and rate monitoring. Sustainability covers advising, reporting and carbon management. Underneath is a data platform with utility bill and interval data, a tariff and energy rate calculator, and solar and storage analysis, available through APIs for partners such as solar, EV charging and carbon accounting companies. The platform page describes the data products.
Who it is for
Arcadia mainly serves large enterprises with many locations. It cites more than 1,000 enterprise customers and 25% of the Fortune 500, across sectors such as financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, data centers and logistics. The company reports processing $30 billion in utility payments annually and managing 4.5 million meters. For startups, the most relevant entry point is its partner and API program, which provides utility data to climate and energy software companies.
How to engage
New enterprise customers request a demo through the contact page, and partners have a separate inquiry form. Arcadia no longer manages community solar services, which are now handled by Perch Energy. On hiring, Arcadia says it is open to fully remote US candidates, with access to co-working spaces or its DC regional office, and lists benefits including flexible time off, parental leave and medical, dental and vision coverage.
Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem
Arcadia is one of DC's most prominent climate tech companies and has grown from a local startup into a data provider used by large companies and other energy startups. Founders building in climate, energy or sustainability software may use its APIs, partner with it, or see it as a model for building a data-centered climate business from the DMV.
