Looking for a DC tech meetup? The short answer: DC Tech Meetup is still the best known name, but most of the regular, worth-it gatherings in 2026 are smaller, topic-led groups like Civic Tech DC project nights, AI builder meetups in Tysons and Arlington, Defense Tech DC socials and Startup Grind chapter events. This guide shows which ones are active right now, who they are for, and how to get in the door.

The quick answer: which DC tech meetup to pick

Photo via Magnific
Most people searching for a DC tech meetup want one of three things: to meet other builders, to learn something specific, or to get in front of people who can hire, fund or buy from them. The groups below are sorted by that goal. Every upcoming date listed here was checked on the organizer's own event page, and you can find all of them, plus dozens more, on the StartDMV events calendar.
| Meetup | Best for | Where | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| DC Tech Meetup | Broad tech and startup community | Washington, DC | Demo nights, irregular schedule |
| Civic Tech DC | Developers, designers and data people who want to volunteer | DMV, venues vary | Project nights twice a month |
| DMV Agent Builders (LangChain) | Engineers building AI agents | Tysons, Vienna, VA | Talks plus networking |
| AI Innovators Network | AI practitioners and the AI curious | Arlington and Tysons, VA | Evening talks plus drinks |
| Defense Tech DC | Founders and operators in national security tech | Washington, DC | Social, no pitches |
| Startup Grind Washington DC | Founders who want fireside chats and dinners | Washington, DC | Monthly in person events |
| DC Marketing Tech Talks | Marketers and growth leads | McLean, Tysons, Arlington | Talks and panels |
DC Tech Meetup: the original, and what to know in 2026
DC Tech Meetup is the group most people mean when they search this phrase. Its Meetup page lists more than 23,000 members and over 100 past events, and the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development still calls it the largest tech meetup in the city on its tech start up resources page. The format is built around demos: local companies show what they are building to a room of technologists, founders and investors.
The catch is timing. The group's most recent listed event was DC Tech Meetup #96, "AI from Demo to Deployment," and no upcoming dates were posted when we checked. Join the group so you get notified, but do not wait on it. The smaller meetups below run on a steadier schedule, and several of them happen in the next few weeks.
AI and developer meetups worth your evening
AI is where most of the DMV's meetup energy is right now, and the best groups mix engineers with people from government and enterprise who are buying the tools.
DMV Agent Builders Meetup, hosted by LangChain
LangChain's DMV Agent Builders Meetup runs October 29 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM in Tysons. The agenda includes a talk on securing multi agent AI systems from Tam Nguyen of the U.S. General Services Administration and a talk from LangChain's Haitham Shahin on building agents that improve over time. Registration needs host approval and the exact address goes to approved guests. See the StartDMV event page.
AI Innovators Network, Northern Virginia
The AI Innovators Network hosts recurring evening meetups on AI trends. Its next session, "AI Policy and the Race for Global Rules," is November 18 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the AWS Skills Center Arlington on Crystal Drive, with networking afterward nearby. It is a good fit if you build or sell AI and need to understand where regulation is heading. Details are on the StartDMV event page, and the group's December 2 session, "AI Wrote the Code. Should You Ship It?", is already listed too.
Civic Tech DC project nights
Civic Tech DC is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) community of volunteers using open source technology to support civic engagement. It holds project nights twice a month, and everyone is welcome. If you want to write real code with other people instead of trading business cards, start here. Find the group on our directory, then follow its Luma or Meetup page for the next date.
Founder and industry meetups in DC
These are less about code and more about the people around it: founders, operators, investors and buyers.
Defense Tech DC
Defense Tech DC is a recurring social for people working on national security technology. The organizers describe it as "no sponsors, no pitches, no asks, just community." The 21st edition is on the StartDMV calendar for November 24 in Washington, DC, with the address shared after host approval. See the event page. If you sell to government, pair it with our guide to GovCon networking events in DC.
Startup Grind Washington DC
The Startup Grind Washington DC chapter has close to 11,000 members and runs monthly in person fireside chats, happy hours, pitch events and founder dinners. It works well for first time founders who want to hear how other people built their companies. The chapter is listed in the StartDMV directory.
StartupCouncil DC Tech Founders and Investors Meetup
If evenings are hard, the StartupCouncil DC Tech Founders and Investors group runs free weekly fundraising office hours online every Tuesday at 1:00 PM ET with angel investor Scott Fox. No registration is required. The November 3 session is on our calendar.
DC Marketing Tech Talks
DC Marketing Tech Talks is a meetup series for marketers across DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland, covering martech, ABM, AI for marketing and CMO panels. Recent events were in McLean, Tysons and Arlington. It is the right room if you lead growth at a startup. See its directory listing.
Beyond the District: Northern Virginia and Baltimore
Some of the strongest builder communities in the region sit just outside DC.
- Nova Labs, Fairfax. Nova Labs is a nonprofit makerspace at 3850 Jermantown Road with members, tools, training and a public events calendar. It is the place for hardware founders. See its directory page.
- Baltimore Tech Meetup and LifeTech. Baltimore Tech Meetup co hosts LifeTech Demo Day #3 at Spark Coworking on Market Place on November 17, with demos in medtech, biotech, health tech and AI in medicine. See the event page.
- The AI Collective, Baltimore. The Human Side of AI is a mixer for technologists, creatives and entrepreneurs, with no technical background required, on November 11. See the event page.
How to get real value from a tech meetup
Most meetups are only as useful as the plan you bring. A few habits make the difference.
- Pick one goal per event. Meeting a technical cofounder, finding two beta users and learning about AI policy are different nights. Choose the room that matches.
- Register early on Luma. Many DMV meetups require host approval and share the address only with approved guests, so last minute sign ups often miss out.
- Go twice. Regulars remember the people who come back. A second visit to the same group is worth more than a first visit to a new one.
- Follow up within 48 hours. A short note that mentions what you talked about turns a conversation into a relationship.
- Volunteer or demo. Civic Tech DC needs volunteers and LifeTech invites teams to apply to demo. Being on stage beats standing at the back.
Hiring or job hunting? Many early teams hire from these rooms before they post a role, which we cover in our guide to startup and tech jobs in DC. For broader founder networking, see business networking events in Washington DC.
